Smiles

Every morning on my way to work, I pass neighborhood houses with students at the end of the driveways waiting for their school bus. On one street, there is a girl and every morning, she waves and smiles at me. Now, she is the one who started this morning greeting. One day, I was driving by and she just smiled and waved. I smiled and waved back. This has been going on for about a year. Even though she and her family are our neighbors, and I know they have a large male Golden Retreiver named Rollo, I feel a little sad that I have not met these folks and this girl. When was the last time you simply smiled and waved at a stranger? This small gesture makes my day! When school is not is session, I actually miss seeing my unknown friend.
