Travels

My friend Sharon and I made our journey to Galena yesterday. We left from CF and arrived in Galena about 5. A long drive, not without its hilarious and trying moments. We passed an establishment that had a huge sod roof. Very interesting, as our ancestors all had sod roofs when they traveled west. Prairie homes, but this was on the main street of a town on the way south. Then we passed this crazy restaurant that had a chicken carcass on a plate situated on the roof. VERY wierd. Further south, there was a grotto, and the name of the town was Dickeyville, pop. 301. The grotto was amazing, and was made of millions of shells. Oh, wait...I forgot our detour. Just entering LaCrosse, the oil light went on. I called Fred, he said PULL OVER AND TURN OFF THE ENGINE NOW! Done. Checked the oil (I had just had it serviced on Tuesday, last), OK...nothing draining out the bottom. Finally, got to the Jeep dealership and they were GREAT. Ended up being a senser, and fixed in about an hour or so, then back on the road after a great lunch at Fayze's in LaCrosse.
Our hotel/spa is lovely, and we are both having massages after our tough day of shopping and sight-seeing here in beautiful downtown Galena. Pictures later, but this is really a great place to visit, and renew, and enjoy something quite unique. History: Galena, home of Ulysses S. Grant; fortunes here made mining lead; very touristy now, with hundreds of specialty shops, wineries, restaurants and taverns. A great place for a weekend getaway.
So, it's about 9:30 AM, and we just had coffee and mocha (me) at Kayte's Cafe and Coffee House. Most places open at 10:00 AM. We parked at one end of town, and will make our way down one side, and then back the other. Last night, we dined at a tavern/pizza joint called Gobbie's, and had a killer pizza, salad and beer fries. The trees here are all budded out, and green and tulips blooming and it is just verdent and beautiful! Our season at home is a week behind, I'd say.
Wish we had another day here. But, we will make the most of it, and have to head back home Sunday, early.
