Fred and I traveled to Madison, Wisconsin on Thursday, last. Dogs with Chelsey, one of our dog-nannies, so we were at our leisure. Oh, 15-May was our 4th wedding anniversary, and we decided to go to one of his fave restaurants on State Street-Porta Bella, which is also the same place he worked 30+ years ago! It was romantic and very nice-we had one entire intimate dining room to ourselves (OK, afterall, it WAS a thursday night). I think the best thing ate for dinner was not the main course, itself. However, the appetizer-artichoke and spinach with romano cheese and crustini was very, very decadent, and tasty. I got a canoli-to go, and did not care for it much, but Fred thought it was de-lish. After dinner and a nice walk, Fred took me to some of his childhood haunts, and Zwerg Drive, where he lived until he moved to Eau Claire.
We were "camping" in the Airstream, so headed back to our very comfortable KOA, and keeping with the Italian theme-watched a Sopranos!
Friday, we headed for Jefferson County, near Milwaukee. An aside to all this was the repair of a nearly blown tire on the Airstream, and we went to pick up a new convection/microwave Fred had ordered from a cool store called American TV and Electronics, in Madison. We spent the remainder of the weekend with good friends from our Aitstream Club-the Wisconsin Unit. Saturday night, we were the Auctioneers for a "Brown Bag" event to raise money for the local youth. It was funny and fun and all for a good cause. Our friends Ellen and Mark McGaughey have a 130 pound male golden retriever named "Rebel", who was in attendance. Fred presented an unstuffed moose to Rebel, and last I heard, he was in love with his new toy.
Something I have found to be very interesting in my travels to new places in Wisconsin....that being...it seems there is a tendency toward statues of things. I am not going to say strange, because that is a relativ
e term...but dang...well, you be the judge. Personally, I was laughing my ass off at both of these.
(Perspective?...the Hostein you can make out, but that funky elephant...hmmm, I'd say about 15 feet high.)
