Fred and I are planning an Aristream Rally for October on 2009. Yes, you read it correctly, one year and weeks out. However, as planning any event, i.e. a wedding or anniversary party, sometimes it is necessary to book the facility before you even pin down the date of the event. So it goes.
I called the Chippewa Falls Chamber of Commerce to inquire about the Northern Wisconsin Fairgrounds as a possible site for our '09 deal. Ok, it's not a really special place with amenities like picnic tables, fire rings and shade trees. Nope, none of the above. What they do offer is full-hook-ups for folks with trailers like ours. Just the basics. Actually, the going rate for camping there overnight is $15.00. Not so bad.
When the rep from CFCC called me back today, she said the fee is $20.00 per night! Ok, I am not a cheapskate, but damn...why would we have to pay more a night than, let's say...if Fred and I just decided to stay there if we were traveling west and needed an overnight spot.
A crock, I say...YES, a crock.
Something told me the the Chamber folks would maybe LIKE it if our group came to the City and spent some $$$ at local shops, restaurants and on entertainment. To charge more seems, well, downright unfriendly!
One of the activities Airstreamers really enjoy doing is to open up their trailers so the people of towns they visit can stop by, take a look and have a refreshment (provided by the Airstream owner). Lots and lots of folks don't even realize Airstream Trailers are still made-thinking they are mostly vintage models that have been restored. Not true, although there are vintage models, we have Airstream Trailers in the Wisconsin Unit that range in production years 1961-2007!
We're still searching for the perfect spot to bring our friends for a weekend in '09. Chippewa Falls has a rich history, and many attractions, and I kind of think the local business people would like it if our 20 or so trailer owners would come to see all that the City offers.
It's time for the new owners of the Northern Wisconsin Fairgraounds to be good neighbors.
I'm just saying.....
