Fred and I returned from Lodi, Wisconsin today. We had attended a camp out with our Airstream friends from the Wisconsin Unit. A splendid time was had by all.
Something I am learning about Wisconsin is how extraordinarily beautiful this state is! Sure, I have all those memories of spending hundreds of days and hours in Turtle Lake, Clayton, Almena, Clear Lake, Barron, Almena, Rice Lake, Birchwood and of the surrounding areas, but these past few years I have had a chance to travel to Door County, Green Bay, Madison, Jefferson County, Wisconsin Rapids and so on.
This past journey found us is the quiet hamlet of Lodi, which is near Madison. This is also near the Wisconsin River, where we crossed on the Merrimac Ferry (above), then traveled on to Devil's Lake State Park. Fred and I left the Airstreamers at Devil's Lake and took a round about route by an abandoned munnitions plant and then on to to a winery where we tasted and eventually bought 6 bottles of Praire Fume, which was the vintage we both liked. We had some fun fooling around like the two travelers from the film, Sideways (which is one of my fav's)!!!
The weather was really wonderful - hot, but breezy and dry and it cooled off to the upper 50's at night which made sleeping in the 'stream cozy and refreshing under a comforter.
For those of you who do not know this part of Wisconsin, make plans to do so. It's a treat for the eye, and with the foliage in full-bloom summer, it may become a fond image to remember about January!
