The Phillip's

Several years ago I read the autobiography of John Phillips titled Papa John, a tale of the amazing and destructive ride through the life of the founder of the Mama's and the Papa's. If you can find it, it's a great read, and in some way, you may come to a compassionate place for his daughter Mackenzie, who was just booked on heroin and cocaine (geesh, do people STILL do cocaine???) charges while attempting to board an airliner at LAX.

Typically, I would not be too intrigued by celebrity drug crapola...however, because of how John revealed his spiral to both fame and destruction, when I read the story today it made me think about the book I'd read.

Papa John goes into great detail explaining the tragedy of actually serving up drugs to his eldest children when they were in their very early teens, if not before.

One of my favorite TV shows all those years ago was "One Day at a Time". Everyone will remember the cutsey little Valerie Bertinelli, and the rebel-child, Mackenzie Phillips.

Art echoes life, I guess.

Shit. I hadn't heard that about Mackenzie. That sucks. Addiction's a bitch. The good thing for her is that she's been through recovery and she knows that it can work. Hopefully she'll get back on track soon.

I actually stood next to Mackenzie for a short time in '87 at the MN State Fair where we were both enjoying a Monkees concert.
