Well, I have made a commitment to better health this year. More vegetables; less sugar (or none), and most of all, I have joined Fred by going to SNAP Fitness almost everyday for a week or so now.
It's really hard to get going when I have been sedentary most of the time. Sure, I take the dogs out walking, but they are doing most of the work. And now that it is all frozen, the paths at the places I take them are almost 12" deep in snow, which would make for a great workout, but damn, it's really hard to trudge through all that.
Anyway, I have started by doing 30 minutes on the tread mill and my heart rate it 115 BPM at an incline of "6" (whatever that means) and 2.5 miles an hour.
For those of you who think this is whimpy, ok...no prob. I can take it. However, it's a pretty big step for me to do this, and I'm taking it one day at a time. It will be boring for you to read about this, but in a sense, blogging will keep me on my toes - or feet, if you will.
For those of you who have mastered the "going to workout" on a regular basis...how do you stay focused? How do you make sure you go everyday? Your tips can help.
Also, is there anyone out there that would like to join? I am NOT soliciting for SNAP...rather, it might be fun to go to with other people...Fred and I will most likely go separately as he is a morning person, and I would go after work. Lemme' know.

Jonny and I like to take our dogs for a walk too, but it gets hard in the winter. We now snow shoe with the dogs and I love it. It is easy to walk through the snow and it is kind of fun. Plus it is great for the dogs. Our snow shoes are not the top of the line, but they work. We got them at Sam's Club about 3 years ago. I think I paid $50 a piece. Keep up the good work, I bet you will feel better. - Katie Dalluhn aka Katie Hanson
Great job Cyn. Once you get going you'll get hooked to working out. If there are days where I really don't want to go the gym, I still try and force myself to go. Once I'm there, I'm happy I went. Cheers to a healthy and happy 2009!
Cyn, I'm proud of you for going the fitness center. It's something I've "talked" about for years, but have not done. I seem to be waiting for something. Older age? Hmmm.
Keep warm my friend.
I loved your pictures of your "cottage" and mobile home during the snow storm. I somehow imagine a fire going with you sitting at your computer blogging or you and Fred reading a book, or just hanging out looking around the "cottage" for things to blog about.
You are Loved!
Force yourself to go for 4 weeks straight, after that it will become an addiction and you will not feel right if you don't go.
If your on the treadmill, make sure your jamming to a Ipod or similar mp3 player. It makes the half hour fly by listening to good music. You might even notice your pace picks up! Soon it will become a brightspot in the day!

Ps. Hydration is key. When you think you have pushed enough water for the day, have another ice cold glass. Your body burns energy warming the ice cold water up.
