Poo's 2nd Annual SPAM Cook-Off

Breaking news...

Sunday was the 2nd Annual SPAM Cook-Off contest at Poo's! A few changes from last year, but all in all, it was a successful and really tasty event!

Five judges were selected to rate the entries based on appearance, taste and creativity. The criteria was a little more intense than last year, which may be the reason there were only 6 entries as opposed to the 11 from 2008. However, the weather was beautiful, in the 40's, and saner people may have been out enjoying that instead!

I'll do my best to cover the highlights!

Although the rules required the cooks include SPAM in the recipe, other than that, it was anything goes!

Following are the entries and the name of their dish:
  • Sharon Roback-SPAMonya
  • Cyn Schmidt-SPAMstrata
  • Bob Woodcock-SPAM-I-Am
  • Mary Campbell-SPAM & Rice Goulash
  • Craig Roback-SPAM a la Rockefeller
  • Pam & Don Briggs-Spicy SPAM Rolls

Drum roll please....

And, the winner was...Craig Roback for his SPAM a la Rockefeller, which was darned tasty, beautifully presented, and well worth first place honors. The recipe will follow and be sent along to SPAM soon! Yours truly came in second with SPAMstrata, and Bob Woodcock took third place honors with his SPAM I AM.

SPAM did cut back some on the donated prizes this year (has this recession hit everyone?), but we are grateful they sent us match-box car sized SPAM mobiles, and Poo donated to the prize money, too. Entrants also received a SPAM t-shirt for their efforts.

Judges included Jim Schuh (last year's first prize winner), Kim, Geno, Ann and Jim. Tonya was our server, and Kathy and Lori tending the bar for the afternoon.

Once again, a splendid time was had by all, and thanks to everyone who participated in the annual, community event!
