Compass and Quill

Today, I brought the design for my Mom's gravestone to the monument company here in Chippewa Falls. Anyway, my Mom had a tattoo on her ankle. She was 74 years old when she got this tattoo. This picture depicts the design I created to be engraved on her headstone. (By the way, Mom's ashes are at my sister Wendy's.) We will have a service at the graveside at Mount Hope Cemetary in Turtle Lake, Wisconsin. Mom will rest next to her parents, my Grampa Ed and Gramma Babe. I am sure it will be a difficult and sad time.

So, Mom was married to (not our Dad, her second marriage) to Aquila Northeast. He was known as "Quill". Mom's tattoo was a compass with a quill pointing to the north east. Very clever, don't you think? The image I created is not exactly like her tattoo, but I think she would approve.

I miss my Mom so much. Although we did not see each other as often as I would have liked, we DID talk on the phone all the time, and e-mailed almost everyday. I still have the last e-mail she sent me...it was August 26th, the day before her second knee surgery. Who would have known...four days later...

The grieving continues...

Hi Nee Nee,

Love, love, love Gramma's headstone. FYI....Gramma and I came up with that idea for a tattoo whilst having a Miller Lite on the deck at Sunnyside. Gramma had been mentioning things she wanted to do before she died (which I thought would be long after me) and I told her she should get a tattoo. She loved the thought of it and we spent hours deciding what to get and she and I came up with that idea. We drew it out and everything...wish I would have saved the drawing. I miss her very much, every day. I know Gramma would love it!! I love you. Say Hi to Uncle Fred (and Kenny) -----Stac

Hi, I'm Cyn's other sister...you know, the one she never mentions. Anyway, the tattoo and gravestone is perfect.
