Today, the Wisconsin Rapids Youth Hockey Squirts delivered two stunning victories over their Eau Claire counterparts. Leading the offensive and defensive effort was the amazing number 53, AKA Powerhouse - SAM STORLIE!
The guys in Red beat up the Eau Claire team in an impressive 9-2 upset, the first of the double-header traveling tournament. The crowd was on its feet when Sam's assist lead to a WR goal in the second period.
Between games, we joined Sam, his Mom Krista and Dad Randy for lunch at "Jim and Jeff's Pizza" on Water Street. After filling up on the carbs, we headed back to the arena for what ended up being a nail-biter, where Sam and his team mates once again rose to the occasion and kicked some Eau Claire butt! Final score of the second game: 6-4.
Fred and I had a great time. Not only is Sam one of Fred's best fishing buddies, he is a talented hockey player, and we were delighted to spend our Saturday afternoon cheering him on, and watching his team victorious.
Sam is Fred's third cousin, and also just turned 10 years old.
BRAVO, Sam, and your entire team. Thanks for inviting us to spend some wonderful family time with you!
