Kind of a Somber Day...

Could it be the January blahhhhhhhs??? Is it still the after-the holiday blues??? Not sure, but I think that deal with SAD means too many days without sunshine, and we have had plenty of that lately. So...today, I was pondering 2007, and I'm pretty sure my somber mood is relative to loss and grief.

In August 2007, I lost my 74 year-old Mom to what was most likely a heart attack after routine knee replacement surgery. Then, in November, our beloved dog, Danger was euthanized due to plainly and simply - old age and seizures. Days before Christmas, my very special Uncle (Jamesey) died. Whew, that's a lot of loss in one half of a year.

Something I have learned about losing those important to us is this: The grieving process is work, and if a person does not do the work, the process is halted. But, it's still there, needing the attention.

Also, M. Scott Peck, in his book The Road Less Traveled, reminds us of Buddha's teaching the first of the "Four Noble Truths", which is that Life is Suffering. That said, life is difficult. The great truth. Ahhhhhhh, but once we know and accept it, then it is no longer so difficult.

Immortality is a fantasy.

It helped to read this today. Thanks for the thoughtful post. "All Things Must Pass", right? Turns out that goes for good things and bad things alike. "Daylight is good at arriving at the right time; it's not always going to be this grey".

Hope you feel better soon. I'll be thinkin of ya.

Spring is just around the corner! At least that is what I tell myself everyday, and it seems to help. Luckily here in Colorado we have 300 days a year of sunshine. For me fundraising in January always makes me feel better. Thank you for the link you posted "Gotta Buck?" Hopefully we can keep up the momentum to collect Allie's goal of $10,000. for this very worthy cause.

Hey thanks...sometimes it's important to prioritize things. And, also, remember to not downplay how we feel. It's a balancing act, sometimes. Anyway, thanks...your comments made great sense. OC
