Fred and I had dinner tonight at El Patio on Water Street. El Patio is, in my humble opinion, the best Mexican cuisine in the Chippewa Valley.
In the booth next to us sat three college-aged student types (Eau Claire is the site of UWEC). They were having a great time drinking pitchers of strawberry margarita's and enjoying the famous El Patio salsa and homemade chips.
What has happened to the King's English? For real...what is it with this "like" talk all the time? I could not help overhearing the young girl go on and on about a road trip she took with three friends. A perfectly fine story for her dinner mates to enjoy. However, and I am not stretching this one bit...the word "like" was spoken by this girl at least every four words.
Like, where does this like come from? Like, is this like a typical, like female like trait, or like is this how, like all young people like talk? What happens if they like actually do LIKE something? Do they like make up like another word to descibe if they like, LIKE it?
By the way, we really liked our meal.

Most of my students are between 18-20, and most of the white females talk like this. It drives me insane. They also have this way of speaking that is lazy, without pronunciation. It's verbal mush. I look forward to proper English being hip again.
Indeed. Is their language the same they compose an essay, or other paper for your class?
