I was thinking about the uncountable injustices there are in life. A rule to live by being, "do the right thing" is so very cliche these days, but it really does hold water, so to speak. In any person's daily life, from the moment we wake, until the time we lay our heads on the pillow, injustices abound. Think about it...the mere fact I can even write about this, use a computer as my tool, and then to think I actually have four pillows on which to rest is chock-full of injustices. So, what to do about it? I think making changes, albeit small ones, can collectively bring forth awareness and result in that "right thing" happening.
Case in point: This past weekend, I met three new people. All had dogs with them. The first person was a man about 60 or so years old. He was walking his elderly (I found out his guy was 17 years old) Golden and a younger Springer/Collie mix little girl. We got to talking, and this man said his young female dog was a rescue dog! They (the humane association in his town) had found her and just one day before she was to be euthanized, he adopted her! The second people were a married couple attending the Airstream Rally in Jefferson County, Wisconsin. This couple had three dogs-ALL RESCUE DOGS.
Folks are becoming more and more aware that it's fine to talk about something, and say we feel bad about it. However, making the choice to DO THE RIGHT THING is when...as they say...walking the talk.
Here's a perfect example of change happening, and the right thing...
Turtle Island Foods, makers of Tofurky meat alternatives, has become the first food manufacturer to become a sponsor of The Humane Society of the United States.
All Tofurky packaging in the United States will carry the HSUS logo.
Turtle Island Foods in Hood River has produced meat alternatives since its inception in 1980. In addition to the Tofurky Roast and Feast popular at Thanksgiving as an alternative to turkey, the company also has a full line of vegetarian deli slices, sausages, hot dogs and jerky.

Turtle Island makes the most incredible stuff. Tofurky slices and sausages, in particular, are delicious, and more mainstream stores are carrying them now.
I like this post. It's so easy to get to a place where we don't think our actions have any impact. I saw on some show this week a segment on the insane amount of trash that we generate from plastic water bottles alone. Example: If one person drinks 3 bottles of Aquafina per day, that's 1,095 bottles per year just from *one person*. And I'm sure a large percentage of these bottles are not being recycled. This trash has to go somewhere. If we all make little changes it can make a big global impact.
Thanks, Jeff. Lately, I have felt so helpless regarding so many injustices in life. It's making me blue, and I gotta wonder how to cope sometimes. Yeah, I think NG did a really good piece on humans and the waste we generate. I really liked what you said about small changes. That made me feel less helpless.
